Keeping this story as period piece absolutely makes this. Fantastic story + truly inspired design distinguish this from all other hero flix.

Nothing can ever best Slapshot, but full marks for trying. Baruchel wrote a good movie, except for his own character. Really likeable & fun.

Finally saw tonight and was able to confirm what I’be expected all along; this is a trifle. a competent if uninspired dollop of something slightly enjoyable and immediately forgotten. And that’s fine. You need those, too. But I’m still mystified why this was award material.
